Caregiver Support
You can love someone deeply and still be exhausted
Caregiving can be an expression of devotion, loyalty, commitment, and love. It can also ask more of a person than anyone around them fully sees.
You may be coordinating appointments, managing medications, helping with personal care, making decisions, watching for safety, handling finances, answering family questions, and trying to preserve the dignity of someone you love. At the same time, you may be grieving changes in the relationship itself.
It is possible to feel grateful and resentful. Tender and angry. Committed and depleted. Hopeful and afraid. These feelings do not cancel one another, and they do not make you a bad caregiver.
When caregiving changes who you are
Caregivers can become so focused on another person’s needs that their own life gradually disappears from view. Rest can feel selfish. Asking for help can feel like failure. Setting a limit can trigger guilt. You may feel responsible not only for care, but also for preserving the other person’s dignity, identity, comfort, relationships, and sense of purpose.
Therapy can give you a place where you are not the one holding everything together. We can explore burnout, grief, family dynamics, boundaries, resentment, fear, decision fatigue, and the practical emotional work of sustaining yourself while caring for someone else.
Care without disappearance
Supporting a loved one does not require erasing yourself. Part of caring well may involve recognizing your limits, sharing responsibility, making space for your own grief, and remembering that your health and humanity matter too.
